Becoming Learners
To Become Better Teachers
We believe becoming stronger teachers and learners will support our students’ achievement. Improvement happens through reflection and intentional learning. Kenwood University (KU) is focused on the impact of our staff's professional learning to benefit our school community. Each faculty member is expected to complete 4 “credits” of 45 minute to 1 hour KU professional development PD “offerings” as part of their professional growth this year. These must be completed prior to May, 2015, and can be accomplished on the Monday’s designated for PD on our school calendar. Select 4 PD offerings (place a check mark in the PD Offerings Box) Keep your form for your own records. Always have the person in charge of the PD (see each description) initial and date the box of the actual course offering you completed. You will turn this initialed form into your Department Chair or Administrator by May 1, 2015. This will also give you opportunities to highlight your work in Domain 4, but is not a requirement for Domain 4. The STAT teacher will keep records of attendance at PD Offerings.

Peer Observation
|
When you plan with your peers, work with them to observe each other’s instruction in a non-evaluative context. Each participant will observe their peer for one class period and complete the peer observation tool. The peer observation sheet should be attached to your KU form. For a peer observation tool click this link: Peer Observation for Student Achievement. The peer you observed should initial and date the PD Completed Box. (2 PD credits)

KU Department Learning |
During a department meeting, share with your department colleagues something you learned from a course you are taking or an article you read AND how you implemented your new learning for increased student achievement. This can be presented during a department or PLC meeting with your department chair attending. Department chair initials this form. Lesson Study |
Complete a Lesson Study with colleagues. Can be done in a Department Meeting or on a KU Monday. The presenting teacher coordinates the meeting and shares a formal lesson plan with a group of colleagues for suggestions and critique. Critique needs to be in written form. For the directions and protocol click here. Modified Lesson Study. Host teacher attaches lesson plan and feedback (if written) or link to tool if using electronic feedback. Department Chair initials host’s PD Completed (2 PD credits), and participating colleagues’ PD completed (1 PD credit) |

Open your classroom to your colleagues to spend 45 minutes of a class period observing and offering feedback to you on your identified area of interest. Attach your reflection to the KU form to receive 1 PD credit. Click here for the reflection form: KU Reflection Form. |

Digital Learning University |
Attend the Digital Learning University https://bcpsodl.pbworks.com/w/page/86570764/DLU Attend 5 two hour modules, do a project and earn a CPD credit (15 hrs=1 CPD credit). (4 PD credits for completing the DLU) |

Naviance |
Have you been asked to write a letter of recommendation? Josh Grubka will show you how to submit them. Excited about a letter you already wrote? He will show you how to upload them. Josh will lead teachers through the process of using Naviance. Bring your device with you to this PD. (1 PD credit) |

Presenting at Kenwood |
Present a teaching/learning strategy on a KU Monday session and receive 4 credits for your hard work. STAT teacher will sign off and date PD Completed Box. (Presenters are listed on next page). |

Bluebird Learning Blog
|
Contribute a “learning one pager” to STAT teacher, who will share with staff every few weeks through the bulletin. Allow your own learning to support your colleagues’ teaching/learning by contributing instruction-focused learning from a BCPS workshop, graduate course, article, conference or outside education organization. One learning paper (a summary of what you learned and how it is implemented in the classroom) equals 1 PD credit. Linda will initial and date the PD Completed Box.
